About the Jaisalmer & Longewala Tour
Three days from Delhi: the Golden Fort and the havelis on the first day, a night in a camp at Sam with the jeep safari and the folk music, then Tanot Mata and the Longewala memorial on the way home.
Longewala is where 120 Indian soldiers held off an armoured Pakistani brigade through the night of 4 December 1971. Tanot Mata, further up the road, still holds unexploded shells that fell in the temple grounds and did not go off.
Day by day
01Delhi to Jaisalmer | Local Sightseeing
- Early morning departure from Delhi by private AC vehicle.
- On arrival, Jaisalmer city sightseeing: the Fort, Patwon Ki Haveli, Nathmal Ki Haveli, Gadisar Lake and the market.
- Check in at the hotel and rest after the drive.
- Dinner included. Overnight stay in Jaisalmer.
02Jaisalmer to Sam Sand Dunes | Jeep Safari & Desert Camp
- Breakfast, then check out and drive to the Sam Sand Dunes.
- Jeep safari over the dunes, the sunset, and a camel safari if you want one.
- Rajasthani folk music and dance, a bonfire and dinner at the camp.
- Check in at the desert camp for the night.
- Breakfast and dinner included. Overnight at the Sam Sand Dunes desert camp.
03Sam to Tanot Mata & Longewala, then Delhi
- Breakfast at the camp, then check out.
- Tanot Mata Temple, near the India-Pakistan border.
- The Longewala War Memorial and the 1971 battlefield.
- Start the return drive to Delhi, arriving late that night.
- Breakfast included. The tour ends.
